Why no software hack for Zune?

There are just tons of shortcomings with the Zune software and I would really like someone to put out alternatives as has happened with the iPod but I have never seen any. Why not? Is the market just so tiny that no one has bothered?

There are people working on it, but I read MS made it really hard. Of course there aren't 10x the hackers working on it like the ipod though..

Dunno if you noticed yesterday's thread about the software update. But the update has made substantial improvements by adding many of the lost / much requested features from WMP11.
