I liked the plastic screen protectors. it doesnt crack.
But it's been years since i've seen one sold on ebay for modern android phones.
Now it's all tempered glass.

Anyone know why?

Probably because they suck. They scuff up and look like you're looking through a dirty window. Takes a state of the art display, and makes it look like it was dug out of a 50s era landfill. Tempered glass is almost as cheap as free. When it gets too cracked, pull it off and install another. I work in a harsh environment, and my glass protector I stalled 1.5yr ago has a single crack that isn't so easy to see. If/when it gets too bad, I'll install the other one that came with the case I bought. The case + two protectors cost the princely sum of $11.

Gotta admit I don't use a screen protector anymore. My phone goes in and out of my pocket a lot, but I keep the display away from things that can scratch. I take care of my phone, so usually if anything it's a major drop to the ground instead of a scratch scenario. Current display toughness is pretty good.

Never used one on any of my multitude of phones so I can't answer. But I do use them on my switch and rog ally as I feel they cost enough to warrant using one.
