Why no Kyro in video card roundup?

I think that Anandtech should include at least one Kyro card in their video card roundups. With each new driver release, the Kyro gets better and better. Most of the compatibility issues have been solved and its OGL performance has increased considerably.

Plus, the Evil Kyro from Powercolor is now widely available from pretty much anywhere that sells powercolor stuff. Since the Kyro is now easier to find and getting better, it should get a place in the weekly roundup.

Well, I guess you're right. The thing is, most of the other stuff I buy (or look at) gets plenty of coverage and reviews. The kyro, however, is kind of dark and mysterious. I'd really like to see what people think of it as it evolves. I think most reviewers gave it a shot and dismissed it. If they had done that with the NVidia Riva 128, who knows where we would be now. I had a Riva128, and the image quality was pretty bad, but performance was good and the price was real cheap compared to Voodoo boards. It helped launch the graphics card industry to what we see today. I think that the Kyro may be the same thing and I want it to get its fair shot.

Also, I didn't think anyone read my other post. I'm glad someone did!

Micah

P.S. I tried to email anandtech about my idea, but I constantly get my emails returned as undeliverable. Does anyone else have this problem?

Maybe they don't include the Kyro, because it does not measure up to todays "hypersonic" video cards?

I think that it would be a good idea to include, so you guys could compare.

Micah, I think I have an explanation as to why it isn't included in video card round ups. See, the name spooks people out, c'mon, Evil Kyro that would scare the bajesus out of 99% of computer geeks. Seeing as anandtech caters towards the computer geek and is a family site, they tend to look the other way to such frightening things. Maybe if they had named it the Friendly Happy Cute Puppy Dog Kyro we would see it.

Or not...

I sure wouldn't really want to buy one if it were a Cute Puppy Kyro. Deep down I prefer the slasher, brutal names. TNT, Napalm, Rampage, they all get you going. Maybe 3d cards would go more mainstream with cute names? Who knows. I can see Macintosh offering a nice, cute pink 3d card. They could call the iCrap. It would look really pretty and not do a thing, like all Macs.

Can someone e-mail Manveer Wasson (the guy who did the roundup) and ask him to include the Kyro? I tried, but I can't seem to get through. I always get an e-mail undeliverable error.

Micah

P.S. Zippy, I knew you were kidding, but you had a good point. All 3d cards are obviously aimed at aggressive people (who happen to be the ones buying them!) I didn't get my TNT2 Ultra in order to play Barney 3D. I got it so I could watch blood and guts splatter everywhere in 32 bit color! If they had a card called "Blood and Guts 32" I'd probably get it!

True, the only "wimpy" name that isn't agressive is the Matrox Millenium series. :p Hehe, such docile canucks. ;) j/k canucks- you guys play a mean game of hockey and I've heard make a wicked brewsky...phew, that was close!

Radeon is a lil wimpy, but not too bad. GeForce, heh, sounds kinda kinky, but lets not let our minds wander!

funny, i was just searching for every kyro review i could find on the net...

and i would purchase it if i were to build a brand spanking new system...

it dominates in various benchmarks (i.e. deus ex) and is quite cheap, plus nice feature set...

not to mention the fact that i'm a fiend for new/unique/under-dog technology that's currently considerably impressive with added potential to show off...

$115 for a 64MB video card w/ extremely good 2d/ and great 3d performance. (According to Anandtech's first review, it seems not too bad at all......Full Screen Anti-Aliasing, 8-Layer Multi-texturing, 32-bit Internal True Color and Direct3D Environmental Bump Mapping...)

If it can go head to head w/ MX, then, I will think it is worth every penny of it. (that's why I am offering to trade my MX+$15+shipping w/ a kyro) :)

Inno3D also start to manufacture Kyro2000 base video card as well.

kyro seems like a pretty decent card. expecially in unreal tournament. the 32bit benchmarks w/the alpha drivers (the one that anandtech benchmarked) beats out almost everything in every category (in UT). The kyro card barely seems to loose any fps in 32bit mode, that's something that id be interested in. i think im going to look into this card a little more.

any more review sites would be appreciated.

If you guys want to get inside info on the Kyro, check out these sites:

http://www.paraknowya.de
http://pvr.gamestats.com/start.shtml

Both of these sites are pretty biased towards PowerVR and Kyro, but they still have good up-to-the-minute info and links to the latest drivers. Paraknowya should be posting a price list sometime soon, but until then, you can check out the list of prices I compiled at:
http://boards.fool.co.uk/Message.asp?mid=6331283&sort=postdate

I guess I should note that I am invested in Imagination Technologies, so anything I say should be taken with a grain of salt too ;)

And we have better nuclear reactors to hehehehe ;)

I don't know much about Canada except 1 thing: COLD! I live in Iowa, and it's freezing here in the winter. I can't even imagine what it must be like in Canada. I'll give credit to anybody who can live through negative double digit winters.

lol it's not that cold everywhere. Vancouver Island where I was born and grew up gets to like -5 in the winter and we get maybe 2 inches of snow. Yes the permafrost line does run through part of canada...but it's not all that cold.
Of course where I live now it was -50 with WindChill 2 weeks before Xmas :(

MGMorden: yeah ok mebbe I don't ;)
