Why no Dual-Channel SDRAM?

I was thinking of how the 760 could be SDR backward compatable, and I thought
"hmm.. i wonder if they could have two ram channels and hit them up each half a clock cycle off the other."

Am I just talking out my ass? if rdram can go dual-channel why can't/doesn't sdram?

Dual Channel SDRAM is actually possible

HOWEVER, it will requires twice as many memory traces on the board, which greatly increase its complexity and price. With current 64Bit memory interface, increasing to 128Bit will make the motherboard much more complex that it is too expensive for an average user

Actually, there is one chipset out there that does Dual SDRAM. Unfortunately, its for a Socket7 chipset. The ALI Aladdin something-or-other. I remember reading it on Tom's Hardware in either an AMD chip comparison or a socket 7 chipset round up.... can't remember off the top of my head.

Alpha's do this already, price isnt as big a factor in that market so they can afford it.

Logically since the i840 is dual channel RAMBUS, and dual channel SDRAM through MTH is used on some of those boards, it should not be too difficult to use the i840 as a basis for a native dual channel SDRAM chipset.

So basically the only thing against it is the pin-count/trace-count puts it out of a cost effective range?
