Why no DC++ talk?

Is DC++ frowned upon here or something? I see no mention of it anywhere... it's a fairly popular file sharing utility... I figured people would speak more freely about it to share quality servers with other AT members.

I posted about it as the next big file sharing program a few months before napster went down... which i was using PRIOR to the websight Napster.com being up *that is before the un-informed news reporters say it first went up*

many people here frown upon file sharing. i suggest you keep it out of this forum if you dont wanna get flamed.

I don't care if I get flamed, I'm just asking if there's a reason why nobody talks about it here

cuz 1. you get flamed 2. the threads get locked/deleted

i don't feel strongly about this but that's what happens most of the time here.

It's a valid question. I've never used DC++, but I have used the original DC client. DC works great so long as you have good hubs to log into and so long as you already have a significant amount of material to share. Get yourself banned at the whim of an operator, and you're ass-out. Lately I've been preferring Overnet.

people dont talk about file sharing here because 99% of it is piracy, and having a wide amount of available information on piracy and file sharing on a site with so many regulars as anandtech could potentially land thie place in hot water with the wrong people.

youd think it would be obvious

i dont mess with file sharing stuff because, again, its mostly illegal, and ive heard more than one instance of people getting virri of all sorts after theyd been on such networks sharing files. .... and having a virus sucks terribly

that, and when you get leet doods as just 1 in 10 on a forum you drop the IQ of the place by about 30 points.

but private hubs kick ass because everyone on them has a fast connection and by fast I mean can saturate a 100 mbps connection.

Well I want on then 😉

Actually... I have almost 6 GB shared on DC++ and it's all legal... stuff like multiplayer maps, demos, updates, out of date versions of software that works better than newer versions, etc. etc.
