Can we all agree that the Pelicans have the absolute worst US Big-3 team name of all time? I seriously thought it was a joke.

If people from New Orleans needed any more proof that their owner is cheap and the franchise is doomed: the choice of Pelicans to replace Hornets was made not because it played well with the market or anything but because the owner already owned the trademark. In other words, he's a cheap bastard.

In his defense, he wanted the Utah Jazz to relinquish their name and this team to become the New Orleans Jazz, as was the NO team that moved to Utah. The Jazz simply didn't want to do that.

I think the Brass or the Krewe were both much better choices. They should have been the New Orleans Hurricanes though!

A lot of teams who move change their name in the process. I think that's actually the more common way lately. Back in the 60s-70s-80s, the teams would keep their name when they moved. But in recent memory, they almost always change their name, NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, have had name changes.

Hornets moved to NO and became the NO Hornets. And are now renamed the NO Pelicans.

And the Charlotte Bobcats have reclaimed the name of Charlotte Hornets effective yesterday. But because of the stupid way the NBA tracks franchise records, none of the old records from the Charlotte Hornets will track to the new Charlotte Hornets; they'll stay with the New Orleans Pelicans.

...And the Titans used to be the Titans of New York, which changed their name to the Jets around '63.

I'm a Titans fan, so I totally support the move of the Oilers to TN. I don't particularly like the Texans either and it's cool that a rivalry was born out of the move (since the Texans and Titans are both AFC South Teams).

I'm glad Bud Adams was able to get a stadium since the Astrodome was such a terrible venue for Football. The new stadium in Nashville is pretty nice and it has a nice view of downtown from the visitor's side.

None of us wanted that shitty team. We were glad they moved. They had given up years ago.

So he asked a question that he knew the answer to already (who just gives up their team name? ) in order to justify using a terrible name to line his own pockets?

Before he picked the Pelicans, he asked for the Jazz name. And, I don't see why Utah wouldn't give it up. There is no Jazz in Utah. Only Mormons.

Utah should have asked LA for the Lakers name, as there are no lakes in LA. Actually, I think every team should be forced to pick their name based on Google association. The Lakers would become the Phonies, the Celtics would become the Racists, the Knicks would become the Douchebags... It's foolproof, this plan. I look forward to many years of rooting for the Portland Hipsters.

Wait a minute, that name is bullshit.

No wonder he got away with it. You actually believe there is logic in that reasoning, and don't understand why a branded business wouldn't randomly give up its trademark based off of the talent concentration of a music genre from a previous century.
