I am building a new rig, maybe a e4300 or e6300 C2D, my budget for MB is about $100.
I prefer a P945 or 965 based board with firewire port. But after searching online, I found
that most newer boards don't come with 1394a port.

Can anyone give me hint? I have few devices have to use firewire. I also think it is faster
to transfer large video/audio date.

Thanks

ASUS and Asrock both have MB's that fit that requirement but, at $100 for a new Intel board, your pushing your luck looking for 1394a in that price range.

I just bought a Gigabyte 945P-S3 for $79 and $10 1394 card. I like the undervolting options of Gigabyte and some moderate OCing is possible. It's cleaner to have internal 1394 but at $100, tough to find. The very small 1394 card works well and includes a front panel header, too.

Same reason SCSI and NAS isn't a staple of every motherboard; because its a specialty bus/interface, not a general consumer peripheral bus. Other than video and audio equipment (specialty), a handful of image scanners (specialty), some external drive enclosures (usually for A/V), and Ipod, what else uses firewire?

Thanks to everyone, it sounds reasonable that to buy a cheap 1394 card than
hunting the board for this specific feature.
