Why make your bed in the morning?

What's the point of your parents forcing you to make your bed?

i make the bed. the gf just leaves it as is.

One practical reason to make it is that if you ever have bugs in your house, with the bed made you are more likely to notice them before you get in than if the sheets are all crumpled up.
