It also helps air out the sheets/bed (a necessary thing in the summer).

Actually just the opposite. Making a bed will increase the breeding ground for all the microscopic nasties.

That being said, I still make my bed, because my mom always told me to.

ha I remember that article. So making the bed is both unhealthy and time consuming

Not so much that. If you tend to sweat a lot, having the sheets balled up will not allow them to dry out completely.

Wow, dude, may want to think about that a bit. Making your bed is not indicative of OCD.

Congrats on being normal?

depending on how it's done, it's a good indicator

I sleep ontop of the blanket and use another blanket that I normally keep nicely folded at the foot of the bed. Making my bed consists of straightening up the bottom blanket and folding the blanket i cover myself with. Easy enough.

Oh, on another topic: I absolutely HATE sleeping in a bed with sheets tucked in. The first thing I do when I get in a bed like this (normally its a hotel room, as I never tuck my sheets in) is kick the sheets until they are untucked. How can anyone find that comfortable?!?!?!

One of the many joys of being divorced is that I can have my bed the way I want it.

I too can't figure out why to make the bed. So I don't.

Geez, I accidentally hit post too soon.

Anyway, I am a mom, and the reason I tell my kids to make the bed in the morning is that they have so much junk, and are slobs, that stuff gets lost in the bed. When the covers are shaken out and smoothed, we can at least see that they have the Starship Enterprise, a playstation and 36 forbidden cookie packages in there.

That's my story, at least.

For those that make their bed, do you also fold your underwear neatly? Just curious...

I never make my bed. Satin sheets hate staying made. I only put in effort when women come over. Also, since my bedroom is on the third floor, I almost never have reason to go up there during the day so it never bothers me.

It is kinda like your mom freaking about you putting on clean underwear. If you go to work and pass out dead, the people that cleanout your home should think of you as a tidy neat person.

I never understood it. Spreading out the sheet, alright, it can air out. But making it perfectly flat with a vertical deviation of less than 20 microns, and perfectly symmetrical.......yeah, I like symmetry, but come on. When I'm sleeping in it, I really won't give a damn about how it looks.

Because I worry that someone might break into my house while I'm gone during the day and see my messy bed and think I'm a slob.

I like making my bed.

I used to make my bed everyday, but it just became pointless.

Hardly anyone sees my bed on a regular basis, and those that do honestly don't care what it looks like.

Although, I do admit, that in the summer months, a made bed feels cooler (as in "colder") than a non made bed... for about half a minute anyway.

I don't out of laziness. Also read the article about the evil allergens. I'm allergic to my bed so it's a valid reason for me.

It's pointless. I'm getting right back in that night so I don't give a flip. The only time I make up my bed is when I put on fresh sheets.

Making your bed is just an everyday organization and maintenance. Also, a sense of orderliness is subconciously a sense of calm and well-being.

My wife and I don't make our bed. We don't really see a point since you're just going to use it again later.

To each their own. :)

Setting myself down at the computer and drowning out the craziness of the world is good for my sense of calm and well-being. Making something look pretty when its sole purpose is to be made messy again just feels, to me anyway, like a futile exercise.

When I was a kid it wasn't enforced, so I didn't. When I was in college, I knew that potential ladies may be coming over, so I did. Now that I'm married, neither the wife or I care, so I don't. :)

Considering I'm the only person who sees my bed, and the only time I see it is when I'm going to bed / waking up, theres no point to making it. Just a waste of time.
