I'm all for apple and I think their products are great. But don't forget the exploding MacBooks, the burning power connectors, the mooing CPU fan, the overheating (burning people's laps), etc.

Macs aren't perfect and I think the more popular they become, the lower the quality will be.

well we all had a bit of a battery problem now didn't we...wasn't just specific to Macs. From what I've seen , there was only one instance of a power connector burning and apparently the cat pissed on it in that case. As far as overheating, did anyone's machines actually shut off because of the heat? No. Then it didn't overheat, it just got hot. And I'm using mine on my lap right now and it's barely warm.

While I agree Apple isn't perfect, I think a lot of people are just waiting to bash them for any reason. That I don't understand. Why does it piss people off so much? What did Apple do to them to get their panties all in a wad?

Apples shrewd marketing tactic was to make technology cool again - by appealing to the hipsters, the beatniks, and the hip hoppers, they were able to carve their own niche while offending people with their "too school for school" approach -namely internet forum geeks and old people...

I like their marketing.. i like their fusion of form and function. To each his/her own. Some people think neon lights are cool inside of their cases, other people have taste...

Actually a lot them are overheating. I've touched one of the problematic ones, it was really freakin hot. And don't forget the random rebooting. I've seen enough videos to convince me that it is a real issue. I beleive they fixed this already.... not sure.

Not saying that other laptops are better, because they aren't. I'm just tired of mac people bashing other brands of computers and then bashing people who bring up the negative aspects of macs.

There are pros and cons to everything.

I think I'm finally switching back to PC after some atrocious customer service with Apple. We got a Macbook in May and it developed sudden shutdown syndrom about 3 months ago, but I held off sending it in until Sept. because the fixes Apple was putting out weren't fixing anything. Finally sent it in and it took 2 weeks to get it back. I got it back with a completely formatted drive. I had backups, so the data loss wasn't a big deal it must have taken 10 hours to reinstall everything and to reconfigure boot camp. Then the first time I tried to use the CDRW after I got it back the stupid thing was jammed with nothing in it. I took it to the Apple store and they refused to replace it instore, but would ship it out and I would get it back in 7-10 business days.

The crappy attitude of the workers is what got me. I'm sorry, but it IS a CD-RW drive, not a CD-ROM Burner, as you tried to convince me, ROM is Read ONLY Memory. And your 12" unwashed goatee is not impressing me.

This was our 6th Mac, and sadly our last.

It took them months to fix RSS, for awhile they were blaming firmware, even when people opened them up and found the melted wires attached to the heat sink.

And ours gets quite warm, but not as warm as the AP Adapter, which gets so hot you cannot even touch it.

ouch man, sorry to hear that. Not going to defend Apple here, what you described is completely unacceptable. But just like any other electronics store, the sales crew is the bottom rung of the ladder. You should complain a bit louder to Apple, you never know what might happen...

No I don't get it...how exactly is it worth $2.7K, well Asus makes them (among other PC OEMs probably) and even Asus is much cheaper!

Is it OSX that costs as much as win XP? no
Is it graphics that are same? no
Perhaps it is something that is again same as on PC....

style, customer service (iamwiz82's case is rare), quality, and the ability to run OSX. The Acer and Asus ones just can't compete with Apple on those points. Look at the price of the Thinkpad T60p, it's just as expensive as the MacBook Pro and has roughly the same feature-set, yet I don't hear you complaining about them. You get what you pay for, it's as simple as that.

Asus looks better than Apple, but it is subjective. I've seen new macs and really they look dull (again subjective), while PC laptops come in all types... so 10 manufacturers surely looks better than one with unchanged style for years (ahem, decades). Customer service... haha. OSX is nothing special, PC can run FreeBSD as well, and million other OSes, without ever borrowing software from mac.

All what you said was list of perceptions, starting from apple quality, not the fact. As said, it can't be better than Asus that already makes them.

Suggestion for you: don't get a mac.. And shut the hell up, this argument is so tired and shows that you can't think in multiple dimensions.. Preference.. Life is all about preference...

if that's what you want to believe, that's fine. Why the bash thread on Macs?

But to address some of your points:
Asus looks better than Apple, but it is subjective. I've seen new macs and really they look dull (again subjective), while PC laptops come in all types...
Agreed, it's subjective. IMO, there isn't anything out there that looks better than the MacBookPro. It's slim, it's light, and it's aesthetically pleasing. And you're a bit off on saying it's unchanged in decades. Don't seem to recall many laptops looking like this back in 1996.
Customer service... haha.
So I take it you can take an Asus in to your local Asus dealer and have them repair it? Oh wait...what Asus dealers? I've taken my MacBookPro in for a repair due to the battery not recording the proper charge (before the recall) and it was in and out that day.
PC can run FreeBSD as well, and million other OSes, without ever borrowing software from mac.
My MacBookPro runs every OS you listed and OSX (which you CAN'T run). So what's your point? Oh wait, you don't have one.

But you see, I don't CARE that your Asus can't do those things and is inferior. Really I don't. You don't see Apple users coming on and bashing PC users...it's always the kiddies out there doing the opposite. Why do you kids always feel like you have to insult other people just because we bought something that's a little bit different, a whole lot better, and yes just a bit more expensive? If we were all as stupid as you say we are, then Apple would have been out of business back in the 80's before you were born. But that's not the case now is it...

I don't like Macs because I have had a terrible experience with them every time I used one. I guess I truly hated Apple when they came out with the iPod. I also, think that they're marketing team is fulll of jokers (c'mon, even my grandma knows that those commercials are exagerated/far from the truth) and it's pathetic that MS owns (please correct me if I'm wrong) %40 percent of Apple. They're main competitor owns %40 percent of them WTF!? And it's funny that every Mac I've used has nothing but Microsoft programs on them. Maybe, I love the penguin so much, that I'm oblivious to the decency of Macs. Anyway, to each their own just so long that they don't try to force their own on anyone else.
Okay, I'll give them these two things: 1. The Apple 2 was a great machine :D and they're cases are well made and pretty.

Amiga My Man. These tools are biased tools. Let them stick to playing video games and having a career working on spreadsheets. Everyone who uses their computers for creative purposes uses a Mac.. We have our supporters, just not here.. And, remember, macs are aspirational - if you get a mac you want to be an artist. You want to make six figures.. You crave success.. Since you can get a pc for $299 after rebate you don't have to aspire to be much to get one.. So let the mac bashers be - you'll need someone to fill up your gas tank in the future, right?

Subjective on the better OS part and they can include more software because no one is going to slap them with an anti-trust lawsuit. As for comparing a barebones Asus, why not compare one of the pre-built Asus' which are great quality and much nicer (again subjective) than the bland white/silver that the Macbooks are?

tell that to the corporate CEO's using PCs who make more in a year than you'll ever see ;)

apple has all these lofty ideals about what computing should be, fine. but at the end of the day, 99% of the world needs a BUSINESS MACHINE, not some pretty, improve your self esteem computer. not to mention, i dont need some punkass telling me how great apples are with his smug "apples rule, PCs drool" attitude in which, 90% of the time, his comparisons are invalid.

which one is that? (genuinely interested)

Particularly the Wxx series of notebooks

you suck ;) There's like a million Asus Wxx laptops out there. The ones I saw didn't look that different than any other non-Apple laptop though.

edit: I take that back, the W5F doesn't look too bad, but it's $1500 at Amazon. You can get a MacBook that works just as well for cheaper.

So the corporate CEO who uses a PC really is using that PC for more than the basic word doc? No, silly goon, the people who really use their machines are NOT the CEO's. And I use my MBP just fine as a developer in a business environment. I can do everything the linux guys can do (I should know since I used one for several years) and everything the Windows guys can throw at me.

Sure the marketing drones at Apple piss you off. So what? You gonna let a stupid ad get your panties in a wad? My MacBookPro didn't do anything for my self esteem BTW, I'm doing pretty good on my own.

And exactly which comparisons are invalid?
