Why Lian Li?

What's so great about Lian Li cases? Never having seen one in person I guess I just don't get it. My CM Centurion is great, well built, easy to use, good air flow, I like the way it looks, etc. and it cost about half as much as most LL cases. I'm just curious.

Once you work on a Lian-Li, you will understand. Its looks simple and normal, but its simply the most geniusly designed case I've ever worked on.

Light, solid, quality made. I have used my Lian-Li PC-62 for over 7 upgrades in the last 7 years and it still looks brand new. It has gone through 2 apt moves, my dremel several times and is still as solid as the day I bought it. 4 front USB ports, blah, blah, blah. One you have one and have worked with one then you will know the true meaning of owning a Lian-Li.

1-A Case isn't "General Hardware"? There's a mobo forum, but people are always talking about mobos here. People even asking about screwdrivers
and paint in this forum...
2-Seriously just curios

Honestly, it's understandable to question why the cases would cost as much as they do for seemingly no tangible benefits over something half the price...

Well, I own a Lian-Li PC1200V Plus or something long and obnoxious like that and let me tell you, I'm glad I bought this case. The case and all components (including a GeForce 8800GTX) are all very quiet and in fact I'd estimate are a good 10db's (half as noisy) as my old case (an older Thermaltake case that also cost ~$200). The case is very sturdy and the craftsmanship really shows in every part of the case.

Although, what I don't like about it was actually putting everything in the case... that was just a chore and a half as nothing is marked and the instructions were poor. Not to mention Lian-Li didn't include anything such as jumbo-sized SATA cables to make up for the long distance they'll have to travel (inverted case). Also, the bezel was very annoying to work with as to take out the optical bezel (top one), you must remove all bezels below it.

Oh and another plus... it has wheels :D. Which translates into geekitude++.

Oh and I have a more extensive review of this case up at NewEgg... or at least I think I do as I submitted it a week or more ago.

Cases & Cooling
;)

And yeah, the Cases & Cooling Forum is quickly turning into the "Lian Li Pwns (but I don't get it), Antec P180/900 (don't) suck, where can I find TT 120 in stock and PC P&C is over-rated (not) Forum"

Well, technically it is HW. :) I can understand some OT posts in HW as it is the most read (except for the FS/T) forum here so most non-HW post are posted cuz they will most likely get read.

Thumb screws are irrelivent to me. I am able to use a screw driver, it's not rocket science.

I prefer Antec cases over the way overpriced Lian Li cases but whatever.

This post is flame bait anyway.

I used to say that, until I got a Lian Li. You have to understand how mechanical and metally it is.

I DO own a Lian Li case (PC-60). Was it worth the $100 or I paid for it? Nope.

I won't buy one again.

Are they very nices cases? Yes.

Are they worth what they are selling for? In my opinion No.

And the most annoying feature, they put the front input panel at the VERY BOTTOM of the case. Nice. WTF?

I own one, and I've worked on many others, most prevalently Dells and Antecs. Why Lian-Li are the best:

1) Cooling. It's fantastic.
2) Placement. I love where everything is inside of the case.
3) Removable MB Tray. If you don't have one, you WANT one, for sure.
4) Removable HD cage. That alone is worth $100 to me, but maybe not to you.
5) Almost NO sharp edges. That's the #1 indicator of quality IMO.
6) Light, but sturdy. Again, they are quality cases.
7) Customer reviews. One person said on here that it wouldn't be worth it again, but did they actually have a complaint? No. They have everything you could want in one case. I can consistently find cases that have MOST of what I'm looking for - maybe 4 of those top 6 things - but I can't find them all in one case like I can with Lian-Li.

Does that answer your question?

Actually that is one of the best features that I like. My case is on my desk so I dont have annoying cables all over the place. But, I can see why it would suck if you have your case on the floor. I dont like having cases on the floor, quicker to get dust inside, can be kicked by accident, etc.

My case is inside of a very large oak desk in a seperate cabinet. No chance of being kicked. It's a PITA to have to crawn down there just to plugin something. I ended up buying a keyboard with a built in USB hub to solve Lian Li's poor panel placement.

I think that is a feature that some will like and some will not. Personally, I like the inputs there as well. I think that the allure of Lian-Li is that ALL of the features that everyone would agree are good are there (I listed them above). This is as close as you can get to a perfect case.

I agree they are very nice cases (as stated) I just don't think they are worth the money.

Most Antec cases are as good or almost as good for less $$$.

Really because in ten years I haven't cut myself. It's not that heavy either.

I looked at a myriad of cases before finally deciding on the Lian-Li V1200 plus. I like the look of it (the Antec P180 looks laughable IMO, like a mini-fridge) and all the extra room inside.

If I were to need another case in the near future, which I won't, I would definitely look at Lian-Li first.

While I love my Lian-Li, as you can tell from my many posts in this thread, Antec does make a solid case also. I have a full tower Antec (forget the model) and it started out as a 486 server WAY WAY back and I have my third or 4th pc (I forget, so many computers at home) and this thing is still awesome, not as awesome as my lian-li but considering the case is over 15 years old means something. The mother weighs a ton, yes, and I have sliced the crap out of my hands too many time to remember and there are no USB or FW ports (there wernt around at the time) but it is still a solid piece of steel. What I loved wheni got my Lian-Li many moons ago was that every single part was of high quality alluminum/metal, from the mobo clips to the bay covers metal metal metal. Ah, I plan on getting the 777 or whatever model it's called, the seashell one, but THAT is a lot of $$$. Someday i'll get one used. :)
