Why LCD flicker with different colors?

I've had 2 LCDs already that within a year they start flickering and changing colors. Sometime the screen will look like a red or blue filter was applied to it. Then reverts to normal. Is this a common problem with LCDs?
 
I've encountered this on solid black backgrounds. Get some red fuzzy blips around the bottom left. Not real bad, just distracting. It's quite odd. It's not enough of a problem to bother me, as I game most of the time and it doesn't happen.
