Why isn't Win2k using my host file?

Yea. That's the only host file path that I know of.

I just don't understand what setting(s) control if this files gets accessed or not... whatever those settings are somehow they got changed because IE now ignores my local host file alltogether!

Assuming you typed everything in right, IE doesn't have anything to do with whether the entries in your hosts file are used or not. Go to a command prompt and ping whatever you added in there. If it comes out with the right IP address when you ping, then something else is wrong. I only use mine so that when I get subscriber.anandtech.com links, it will send me to the corresponding forums.anandtech.com link.

Do an ipconfig /all and let me know what WINS node type your box is using. I reckon it isnt using -h (hybrid) which is the default. DHCP usually dictates what the node type is in 2k.

It has nothing to do with the /path your LMHOST or HOST file is in. It has everything to do with the WINS node type your box is using.
