The amount of contempt and entitlement this asshole aristocracy has for the rest of us is staggering. This isn't just about them despising the usual socioeconomic targets - the poor uneducated inner city black kid, the mexican immigrant, etc... these people hate and despise the fat white middle income, probably christian midwesterner... who probably owns a hardware store, and his wife goes to PTA meetings, and they spend their weekends going to soccer games and their nights awash in the glow of football and american idol on the big screem, or surfing facebook and pron on the net. They know they are "better" than all of those people, and that entitles them to steal from them... not just one or two, but every fat lazy slob who is too stupid and/or preoccupied to do anything about it, even as the value of their biggest asset (home) plunges, and their retirement and investment accounts are wiped out - years of hard work just wiped out overnight, and with more brazen, "f*** you" efficiency than the best burglar, car thief or con man, ever.

but...

#2 Nothing is going to change until it gets as bad as things are in Egypt, etc. As long as we are A) comfy and happy in our mid level sedans, warm houses, cable TV and internet, and eating cheap fast food and collecting useless doohickeys made by near slave labor on the other side of the world, and/or B) we have something to lose (kids, etc)... And they're counting on that, which just ratchets up their entitlement and brazeness even further.

Read the story. It is obvious you didn't.

Matt Taibbi is doing the best investigative journalism on this entire issue. His article last year on http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/wall-streets-naked-swindle-20100405 was eye opening, but this follow up is downright damning. We have created a system where no one is held responsible for crime.

Over drinks at a bar on a dreary, snowy night in Washington this past month, a former Senate investigator laughed as he polished off his beer.

"Everything's fucked up, and nobody goes to jail," he said. "That's your whole story right there. Hell, you don't even have to write the rest of it. Just write that."

I put down my notebook. "Just that?"

"That's right," he said, signaling to the waitress for the check. "Everything's fucked up, and nobody goes to jail. You can end the piece right there."

It's an amazing read. I read it 3 times at lunch today. It's staggering.

It's also incredible how little our press is doing any coverage close to as good as Taibbi.

Funny how our resident Righties only reference that when they want to further ignore the topic, and the complicity of their Bush Admin heroes in the whole imbroglio...

It's the GOP, the political/ propaganda arm of the ruling Lootocracy. Don't worry, though, the new GOP majority in the HOR will now cut spending w/o touching corporate welfare in the slightest...

Its called the "golden rule" - the people that have control over the gold make the rules. But in this case, its who has control of the money makes the rules.

Banks will bring a nation to its knees faster then any army.

I just left Nancy Pelosi a suggestion to have the Democrats make a clear alternative budget proposal to highlight all the bad priorities the Republicans are making.

I said the Republicans are pushing through bad priorities by using the issue of needing to cut because of the debt to get through the wrong cuts, and Democrats should say that.
