The photo app is pretty barebones but it does let you view flikr and facebook photos but why not google's own picasa?

What ROM? The gallery app in CyanogenMod definitely pulls in my Picasa albums. Similarly, when I go to share a picture, Picasa is one of the menu options. I created one called "Phone Drop" and regularly upload my new pics there for backup.

Yeah, stock Android is directly linked to your Picasa account. Maybe not some other roms or UI's.

it would be nice if it uploaded automatically though

it does "sync" in that it will automatically pull down new albums added to picasa web albums. it won't automatically upload pics taken on your phone to picasa though, which would be cool.

if you are capable, and seeing where we are you should be, you should be able to get froyo gallery onto your 2.1. then youll have this functionality.

Tangentially related in that google doesn't seem to fully get how to relate all of their separate technologies, why isn't the browser called 'Chrome'? Or 'Mobile Chrome'?

because it isn't based off chrome, it's based off webkit

i agree in most areas they could do a much better job of integration though

I have Sense which has HTC's gallery which apparently doesn't do anything with Picasa, I downloaded Gallery 3d from the market because a review on XDA said it integrated with Picasa. But it doesn't for me.

Wait, what phone do you have? Sense for example for whatever reason forces you to use Flickr.
(Later versions of Sense, Picasa is an optional add on.)

on the dX theres a quick upload feature that will send it to your picasa without any log in or anything. its pretty handy, it even sets up an album called drop box for it. im guessing that may be a bit of blur there tho...

Correction, Sense 1.0 gallery doesn't have an option to show picasa photos. In Sense 2.1, you can get the picasa gallery addon from from htc hub.
