Why Isn't There A New PSU Connector

It's been nice to have some old things phased out over the past few years, but one thing that really bothers me is the 20/24 pin PSU connector. It's monstrous! Can't we get some SATA/PSU love child type connector. I mean even even if the wires need to stay the same dimensions fine, but make the connector like half the size. Or maybe just change the power delivery and deliver just one voltage and have onboard regulators step up or down the voltage.
