Why isn't my webcam working?

We've got a pretty bare bones Dell Dimension E520. 3 mHz celeron processor, standard video card, 1gig RAM, running Vista. We just got a 2 megapixel logitech webcam so that we could talk with my brother who is in Iraq. However, the system just seems to be too overloaded to handle all that streaming audio and video. Where do you think I need the upgrade? Add a couple gigs of RAM, or a new video card?

Your system is far better than adequate.

Knowing what is going wrong would be a good start. Other information such as program used, and connection type and speed on both ends, would also be of help. Of course, it's always possible Vista doesn't much like your webcam...whichever one it is that you're using, that is.

I would bet it's the netwok connection. Most computers made in the last 10 years can handle webcam video and audio very easily.

I would guess it's your connection, but it could also be the software. Which chat program are you using?

Since you're in Vista try going to logitech's site and getting the newest drivers. In my personal experience the drivers that come with their webcams are for xp only and if they do come with vista drivers they're broken. As other people said its not a hardware issue(unless its a problem with your USB inputs or the webcam itself).
