Why isn't more software released on DVD-ROM?

With all the games/apps coming out on multiple CDs these days, why don't the company's just release them on DVD-ROM? Most computers have DVDs these days. It'd be more convenient for the user, probably cheaper for the manufacturer, and it would probably prevent some piracy as well (DVD burners much less common than CD burners).

I remember a few years back several games came out on DVD (Baldur's Gate, Riven, etc), but I haven't seen any in a long time. What gives?

Most computers do not have DVD's. 99% have cdroms. CDroms are almost a requirement to sell a system to a home owner. DVD's are not even close.

Don't most computers these days have DVD-ROMs? Anyways, the companies could release 2 versions, one with multiple CDs and one with a single DVD. I, for one, would buy the DVD version...

My Encarta Deluxe 99 had a version with one DVD-ROM and the Solaris 9 Operating system comes out on DVD-ROM.
