Why isn't Marbury playing?

I always assumed there was something going on between him and Isiah Thomas, but now that Isiah is out Marbury is still not playing. What's the problem here?

Who's Marbury? Isn't Isiah Thomas one of them 19th century poets we were supposed to read in HS but somehow never got around to it?

The problem is that Marbury is not as good as he seems to think he is. I would not be surprised to see him moved or even cut shortly.

Yes but why isn't he playing, he is still on the team, but is always on the bench. What is the story behind that?

Not a basketball fan, but I've often wondered... teams play less than 10 guys a season on a team yet there are MANY college graduates and there's a draft. How many are actually drafted & what are the chances they will crack the lineup? There's no minor leagues, am I right? Leads me to believe only the top miniscule % of basketball players ever make it... or they're just playing in unknown leagues, out of the country, or quit basketball completely.

There is a minor league of sorts, called the NBDL (DL is Developmental League). Many undrafted or cut draftees end up here if they don't go abroad.

You are right that a small % make an impact, or more appropriately immediate impact. Many are young, and many don't make any progress for 2-3 years. Bynum might be a good example of that, assuming he has a big year... but of course that name is probably lost on you like you say.

Many teams do play 10 though. Depends on the strategy/skill to pick from.

More than likely the Knicks are going to just cut ties with him soon. As big of a prima donna Marbury is, I think it's kind of crappy how the Knicks handled it. I have a feeling they were kicking around the idea of keeping him while the preseason was going on (hence why he played) then decided after they don't want him anymore. They won't play him because why waste floor time with him to learn the D'Antoni system when you could give it to another player who will prob stick around longer?

Because the Knicks think he actually has some trade value and don't want to risk him getting hurt before they can offload him to some other suckers? That's the only reason I can think of. That or maybe they have a vendetta against him and aren't playing him out of spite in an attempt to further tarnish his image and hamper his ability to sign a free agent contract after they release him.

I wouldn't mind sitting on the bench making bank. He has a garanteed contract that pays close to 22 Millioooooooooooooooooooon this year.

News: Marbury is on the inactive list for Friday's game at Philadelphia, and will likely remain their indefinitely, according to a New York Daily News report.
Spin: Knicks' head coach Mike D'Antoni sat down with Marbury Friday and told him the "team is going in a different direction." Marbury is due $21.9 million this season; look for him to be bought out or traded soon.

Dude. Boy yourself a clue from amongst the following selection of relevant adjectives: Marbury is a selfish, uncoachable, aging, over-priced non-team player and clubhouse whiner on a rebuilding team trying to stumble through the chaos they inherited from having Isiah as a GM and move on.

He doesn't fit in to their plans.

D'Antoni never got over Starbury quitting on the team in Phoenix (2005?). He hates Marbury's guts.
