Why Isn't Israel A Member Of NATO?

The US gives Israel a huge military budget each year yet they are not a member of NATO. I realize that they aren't in the "North Atlantic", but they should be part of some military group for the US, yet they aren't. Why?

Turkey is in NATO and it isn't in the North Atlantic.

NATO is probably worried that they would be dragged into the great Middle East cesspool if they allowed Israel to join NATO.

Why would Israel want to join in those problems (Russia back then, Kosovo, etc.) when it has enough military concerns of it's own at home?

What's the deal with your constant Israel bashing and slandering? shifrbv asked a simple question and you immediately bash Israel. I have not seen one post of yours that is not clearly biased against Israel. If you can't have an intelligent conversation without blasting Israel, perhaps you should grow up and see things from the other point of view.

May I remind you that Sharon != Israel just as Clinton != USA.
Bashing a politician does not equal bashing a Country.

I would have to agree that the reason Israel is not a NATO member is just because it is constantly being attacked, and constantly waging a war in the middle east. For NATO to get invovled there would be seen as an act of hostility by many Muslim nations (or at least I would think so), and it would lead to further hate against the West.
