Why isn't BlueJ open source?

I'm required to use it for a class I'm taking, and I'm using the OS X version....

It looks so crappy. It was very obviously designed for windows first. I could tweak the interface to look a LOT better with like 2 lines of code, but nope, no source. How lame is that, I mean it's a free product, why not?

It does to my professor.

Maybe I will email whoever it is that makes BlueJ. I doubt they're jsut going to send me the source code, though.
