Why isn't 1280x800 a valid resolution in games

In games that requires a command-line argument for widescreen like BF2, what are the valid resolutions? Now I've checked and rechecked the math a dozen times and it is indeed 16:10, but almost no game accepts it via comand-line or through .ini edit. It sucks cause in games like BF2, CoD, and FEAR, there aren't any good resolutions near the amount of pixels I can push. Ones like 960x600, 1280x800, and 1440x900 seem to be rare yet are all 16:10. Instead resolutions like 1280x768 work for BF2. Yeah, there are so many 15:10 displays out there.

Right thats where I got my solutions from, but in almost all of the solutions threads it says "where sizex is for ex 1680 and sizey is 1050", but they never give a valid list of resolutions, assuming that everyone wants to use 1680x1050 or whatever. Well I mean I'd love to as well but its not doable with more and more games.

When you go to your display properties for BF2 to be able to display a certain res it MUST be one of the selectable options. If its not its NOT going to work with BF2 atleast. So either use a 3rd part app to create this res like Riva Tuner or if you have an Nvidia card use thier built in tab for custom resolutions thier drivers.

Ahah, thank JBT. I guess I should fix my own problems before going to blame it on the games (tho with a gem like BF2 its easy to wanna blame :)). And HL2 is one that I can run at 1680x1050 and it is quite impressive with the adjusted FOV for widescreen.

I'll look for an ATI app that'll add custom res. Thanks again
