This is very serious guys. I'm so sick of it.

Look.

I go to youtube and stream a HD video right? Well, I got slow internet connection. That's ok! I let it finish down stream first! Once done, I do a playback! It's slow! I mean it plays fine and then after a some seconds it jerks, or it stops for about 1 sec or 2. Goes back to normal playback speed and it does it again. The browser I'm using is the latest version Firefox. What am I doing wrong????

So OK! I go open up Safari. Go to youtube and finish downstream a HD video. I do a playback. It's jerky, but quite a bit better. So Safari wins!!!

But still, too slow for anybody's expectation. For God sake even a 5 year old kid will complain about this. Can't I have a smooth, no cutting playback? I don't get this problem on world champ Windows XP, Windows Server 2003! It's smooth as rock. This is ridiculous... OS X Lion is what... 8 or 9 years newer? The tech has gone backwards... unless I'm doing something wrong. Is there a fix to my playback issue? Oh I have more... pending.

For my Macbook pro, I use MPlayerX. When I play 1080i HD files I often get stuttering problem or pauses for a split second (like 0.1~ 0.2 sec?). Guess what, it does it on 720p MKV files too!

so I said OK! I restart my macbook baby and run APPLEJACK in single user mode... do a full scan and do a clean up.

Reboot.

I go open the HD file and it plays smooth with almost no stuttering. It's a lot better. Then about a day or two later, it starts doing that thing again!!! This tells me that MPlayer X uses some cache file that once it gets full it wants to throw up? What da hell..... it doesn't make sense. I don't get this problem with Windows XP and Server PC using Elecard MPEG Player. It's so scary fast like you would wanna run. ZERO FRAME DROP. It's like watching something in real world, you know there is no lag. Why is everything new tech inferior? It's pissing me off.

Er.. Um.. Cheez, to be honest with you, I don't understand how you're having so many problems. :(

My mother has a MacBook Air, and I JUST streamed a HD YouTube video. I tried twice on two different videos. One that was long and let it download and then another that I just let it buffer first and stream it/download it as I played it. They both played fine.

She has OSX Lion and it's the 13" version.

I feel so bad for you. :(

Also, she doesn't restart her computer.. ever so this was with it on for days. :(

Well, I think I already suggested this, but would you just bring that MacBook to an Apple Store and get it exchanged already?

It seems to me like your MacBook is just begging for it.

dlock13, I don't know what the deal is exactly... I have full of issues. :(

I know that MPlayer X *isn't* known for smooth playback but it's getting to the point the playback is just unacceptable.. I played around with settings but to no avail.

I don't want to use any other players offered for Mac OS X as they are all ghey, meaning unacceptable. I did try out VLC player and that was an absolute gheyness. Yeah it did play a little smoother. But the de-interlacing setting would not hold next time you play a 1080i TS file again. Also the sound is terrible. Played around with equalizer settings and it still sounded terrible. And way too many controls / tweaks that confuse us cool people.

I do download lots of large files over via uTorrent. I wonder my hard drive running low on virtual memory? But here is the thing. On my Windows PC, with Elecard MPEG Player, I get solid playback with zero frame drop no matter how much my hard drive is used up in page file or running low on memory. As you can see, I got spoiled by super speed and solidness from the previous computer setup. And guess what, that Windows PC has 1GB of RAM.

I guess this isn't a huge problem as once I reboot the comptuer or run APPLEJACK it does play 1080i files acceptably in Macbook.

But the bigger issue is the rough playback in HD videos on Youtube. It's so terrible it's unwatchable.

I wonder the Intel Graphics 3000 has memory issue?

Or my browser? Is Firefox bad? Is there some settings I'm supposed to tweak?

I don't know.

runawayprisoner, I kind of doubt my Macbook hardware has any issues that's causing poor playback on youtube. Are you telling me I got multiple hardware issues? I doubt it. Here is why.

A while back I ran Windows Server 2003 on my Macbook with Elecard MPEG Player. It ran 1080i files flawlessly, zero frame drop, ultra smooth playback. I didn't get a chance to test it on youtube video playback but.... pretty sure the problem is nowhere as bad as I get with OS X Lion. Is there some special kind of Flash Player I need to install? Well, I tried the latest Adobe Flash Player and it made the youtube playback worse.

I don't really want to go back to Windows Server 2003 as I can't install iTunes... Server 2008 was kind of ghey in playback so I don't want that. The 2003 is the super king of the kings. But no iTunes... well we got probs. :( I also can't find the software for adjusting display and keyboard light brightness for Server 2003. :(

I'm gonna backup my files to external hard drive and gonna do a C:\format :D on my Popbook (Macbook I mean, lol).

I will come back with results after reloading the Mac OS X Lion.. I have the image saved up in my USB drive.

If I still get the problem then I will see about getting my Popbook exchanged. Are you happy now?????? :D
