About 6 months ago we banned URL shorteners. They were being widely abused by members and spammers alike.

I can understand that banning of URL shorteners, however, youtu . be doesn't have the ability to point anywhere except for youtube itself. The point of banning url shorteners was to prevent people from being redirected to malicious sites. It is less of a URL shortener and more of a youtube shortener. It doesn't really have the ability to be misused.

People will figure out howto misuse it in time.

Once that happens; AT can become exposed.

Safe than sorry.

So, let me get this straight, we aren't allowed to post any youtube links here now? I tried to link a video and got the asterisks of death instead.

For the time being you need to use full links. e.g. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=[ID]

I'll talk to the admins about youtu .be. While we don't want to seem inconsistent about our handling of URL shorteners, if Google does own the domain then I can't think of a practical method of abuse.
