Why is Win 7 telling me that the non-boot partition...

In Disk Management, I am seeing C: (boot) with the following tags:

(Boot, Page File, Crash Dump, Primary Partition)

and Dcolon (separate HD, non-boot) with the following tags:

(System, Active, Primary Partition)

Does this have anything at all to do with the fact that I cannot format Dcolon? I'm certain that all my stuff is on C: and that the OS on Dcolon hasn't been touched in over a year.

Boot is where the Windows system files are, and System is where the Windows boot files are.

You must have had D : connected, when you last installed Win7 to your C : drive?

IIRC Windows uses the term boot and system in reverse in this context, so even though you don't use your D: drive Windows has its boot files there and you can't format it without a significant amount of work to get them on the other drive. Most likely a reload with the second disk unplugged is the simplest and most reliable solution.

And if you look down a little bit under the text box for posting there's a "Disable smilies in text" option to avoid the D: issue.

System tag will also appear if you have a swap file or the hibernation file on the d drive. I think it also appears [need to check] if you ever install anything to it.
