well this might be traumatic to you, but movies, tv, and video games aren't real. human bodies, however, are real bodies, even in the movies

So a human actor is not real if its a violent fight scene, but if the same actor is on a sex scene he is suddenly real?

when an actor gets shot or punched in a movie, is that real? no

when an actor gets naked, theres nothing fake about it.

people accept violence in movies because it is FAKE! I truly do not think violence in movies has a big influence over NORMAL people. Of course it might affect the people who are screwed up already though.

On the other hand, a naked body is a naked body. In our society you can't just walk around naked. You can PRETEND to beat some one up as much as you'd like though...

sex in the past was dangerous. death through childbirth was common, hell look at the third world today. no ones going to raise bastard children. and controlling sex is a way to control people/society. and to control for power, create more soldiers, more workers. more peons. plus they didn't understand anything about the process, i guess it seemed magical/mysterious. far more so than say clubbing someone over the head;)

violence on the other hand can be very useful for religion and or whatever group is in power. there are always infidels to kill you know.

Sexual imagery is a lot more powerful than violent imagery. Hence the double standard I guess. Watching sex makes you crave it, watching violence makes you queasy. Nothing wrong with wanting sex but chances are you're fantasizing about banging the chick in the movie and not your wife. Guys have hard enough time controlling themselves as it is without the constant visual stimulation. Pandering to your sexual craving does not make for a healthy society. It's a weakness, not a strength.

"Pandering to your sexual craving..."

The very language you use to describe it sets up an automatic negative stance toward it. How about:

"Satisfying your sexual needs makes for a healthy society."

I would argue that it's a bit healthier for society if most people did not go around sexually frustrated because they were trying not to "pander to their sexual cravings".

I can walk around naked in my house. Do you think if nudity were allowed on TV the characters would be walking naked through the streets? Maybe in dream sequences, maybe if someone is in trouble on SVU or something but otherwise I'd imagine that most nudity would be portrayed in situations where its legally allowed. And where it isn't would probably be the focus of the show.

Your reasoning goes back to what I said. The nudity isn't portrayed negatively, you automatically assume that the nudity should have some negative aspect and therefore it being real nudity is bad. Furthermore you say that the violence is fake which is ok, except that it is portrayed as real. It is not as if in shows with violence they use bright orange guns to signify the fakeness. The nudity is also real and portrayed as real but what the characters do nude or not is fake because its acting.

You also mention influence. You say most people are not influenced by the violence because its fake but the nudity is real so that might be an influence (you don't state this directly but you do imply it). If the nudity has no negative aspect (ie walking around my house) even IF this influenced people in what way is it bad? It is not illegal, it could be considered immoral, I suppose, which is exactly why morality groups want to limit it. If the nudity were used to show someone get arrested for public indecency do you think that would influence people? Or do you think, like violence, when it comes to negative nudity only unbalanced people would be affected?
