Why is video choppy and slow?

Hi folks,

Hoping some of you Nvidia users can help me.

I had dual 7800GTX's in SLI mode and life was great. I then used EVGA's step-up program to get two 7900GTX's in SLI mode.

I am running max everything on my games, and particularly in FEAR, the movement is choppy when in combat situations. I know they are in SLI mode, as I got the Nvidia message on my screen when inserting the 2nd card. I check the Nvidia desktop and the SLI mode is checked.

I am running the latest drivers: 8.4.2.1.

Also interesting, when I run 3dMARK05 or 06, the system detail shows only one GPU installed on my MOBO, not two.

Obviously, in hardware mgr. they are both there, running at 8.4.2.1. The SLI strap is in place on the cards.

I have no idea what else could be causing this.

Oh, and regarding the ongoing dialog on whether LCD's panels have lag or not. I have both a Samsung 244T as well as a Sony FS9012 24" CRT monitor, and this occurs on both of them.

thanks for any input!

Hi Matt,

dual core fix.....If it's what I'm thinking, I don't know that I need it?

when I check the computer under hardware mgr., it shows a ACPI Multiprocessor PC

I thought that was the test to see if you need the fix or not.

Maybe I'm wrong?

Youre wrong.

You need a fix for many games. Id bet your problem is you need to set affinity to 1 core. I believe the fix, "fixes" that.

ANyways without the fix, try setting affinity to 1 core and see if that fixes it.

Try This

Great little guide.
If you have an Opteron, don't use the link in the XS post, go to AMD's web site and go to the Opteron Download page, not the X2 one.

You definately need the dual-core fix.

When I try and play CS:S, BF2, HL2, Far Cry, pretty much every game I've tried, I've got stuttering and poor performance. ALT-ESC and changing the affinity to one core corrects this problem. The patch I thin Wizboy linked you to will fix it so u dont have to manually set the affinity.
