Every day can be junk mail day but Tuesday always brings advertisements and nothing else. How come?

Because people don't mail much on Saturday morning and nothing else mailed on the weekend goes until Monday.

Tuesday is typically a slow sales day - a good time to entice customers to visit your store. They know when you'll receive the ads. This is why newly-released music CDs arrive in stores on Tuesdays.

Ever notice little mail arrives on Wednesdays, because it's in the shadow of the weekend?

Just brought in Tuesday's mail - 2 bills. Junk mail would have been a welcome improvement. :(

I don't even check my mail every day I'll randomly remember to check it every few days. And then 99.9% of the crap in there goes right into the trash.

That. Grocery stores change up their sales items on Tuesday as well.

I think my postal people decide to take some days easy and only deliver those ad mails on some days.

I also like how the Friday person will often deliver no mail, (to get off early) while the Saturday person gets stuck delivering a lot of letters.

I never really took notice on what days I get more junk mail than others. It typically goes straight to the recycle bin. It's a waste of resources imo. I would rather these companies stop sending out crap and use that money to give their employees a raise.

On similar note: Charities. I donate to charity, but I get annoyed at all the crap they send me in the mail. Why not use that money to go towards the cause instead. The particular charity I donate too has a rather low administrative cost percentage compared to some others, but they could make it even lower if they stopped mailing so much stuff.

Just the mail? We wrote a check to a local charity every month for years and they decided that the well was deeper such that they started making phone calls wanting more. I told them to be happy with what they were getting, to stop the calls or the money would stop altogether. They didn't stop and haven't got a dime since.

This is exactly what's happening here too. Ads on Tuesdays, it's rare to get a Friday delivery and Saturday is bonanza day.

Shens. Everyone knows liberals don't give to charities.

It's just one of the many reasons that Tuesday is the worst day.

because grocery store ads run wednesday to tuesday. so on tuesday the mail delivers the ad that starts the next day.

There's a good chance a lot of bulk junk mail comes from the same place if companies are outsourcing their advertising locally. Perhaps many firms are doing Sunday-Saturday sales and do their sales and coupon mailings at the first of the week to make sure everyone gets them before the following Sunday when the prices flip.

For credit card mailings and other things...that's likely a monthly endeavor if your credit gets evaluated occasionally.

This is just a point of interest. I opted out of CC solicitations quite a few years back. We lived quite a distance off the road and I had put a yellow flag that popped up when the mailbox was opened so I didn't end up walking all the way out there in the rain or snow to find that the mail had not been delivered yet. Most weeks the mailbox was opened hours after I had retrieved the mail at least twice. People were cruising the area looking to steal mail out of the boxes. The majority of us had our homes far from the road which made the thefts unlikely to be spotted. I actually spotted a car doing it one time.
