Ok, so today is a rather hot day (southern hemisphere at least). My sister's playing UT2004 and the PC is making a lot of noise (and I mean a lot, it actually sounds like a vacuum cleaner). After she was done playing, I checked Asus Probe and the CPU was hot, but well within specs (about 52ºC) and the fan was spinning at a whooping 5300 rpm.
After a while being idle, the CPU cooled down to 38ºC, but the fan kept going at 5200 rpm!!. Why the hell is that? Isn't it supposed to spin down when the CPU cools? The damn thing is soooo loud and annoying that I shut it down.
We're talking about a 2.8GHz Northwood, with stock HSF and a 120mm exhaust case fan. A Radeon 9800Pro and a single HDD.
