Why is this happening?

So the thing is that all my .exe files somehow got associated with some random program (adobe reader, windows media player ) and when i run them they dont open but those above mentioned programs opens.
When this happens i cant run system restore, task manager nor regedit, because they are also exe.I fixed this after spending few hours on internet and searching for solution, actually fixing this was easy when i found .reg file on some forum, which takes back .exe values to default.
This problem still comes back sometimes but i dont know what is cause for this?

If the problem keeps coming back, I would suspect some piece of software on your computer is to blame. Three things I would do:

1. Think of anything you installed on your computer around the time/just before you started noticing this issue, especially those that aren't very well known.
2. If you are running a registry cleaner, don't.
3. Scan your computer with a program such as MalwareBytes AntiMalware. Infections can cause issues similar to this.
