Why is this happening?

Well...here's the situation. I recently upgraded my sound card to the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz. Now...since I made the change two odd things happen:

1. The computer, after running for a while will randomly shut down and restart.
2. Sometimes when the computer starts up it does not recognize the C: and says invalid system disk.

Now these never happened until I changed the sound card. Is this because of the card, the harddrive itself, or do I need a new power supply? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Did you uninstall the drivers for your old sound card? Have you tried another sound card of the same model to see if maybe the card itself has problems?
And welcome to Anandtech.

Make sure the driver is the right driver for your os. Go into Device manager, and check for resource conflict. If you have an onboard sound card on your system board, make sure you disable the on board soundcard through bios. Another thing you may want to check is to reseat the sound card, or to plug it into a different slot and see if that helps.

Thank you very much. I will give those a shot when I can. The previous sound card was not on-board. I'll let you know how it turns out. And thank you for the greeting.

What operating system? XP reboots when there is a blue screen error. This can be shut off to trouble shoot problems. Of course it should still recognize the C drive. If it was just the reboot I would say it was a driver problem.
