Why is this Administration so intent on self-harm?

I'm not sure they are actively seeking to make things worse. I think they're just genuinely stupid and think there should be no harm "opening up the living space by knocking down all the load-bearing walls".

Though, I do admit that IF it was in my power... the nation we build would allow political dissent and the Bill of Rights largely intact. Minus a few safeguards against alt-realities spreading like wildfire.
I do not imagine they will offer us the same deal.

Such a notion WOULD make me different from MAGA. I would see our people adhere to the scientific principle. Not throw it away for Cheeto Jesus.
The meaning, or virtue of that, I don't care. I leave that to others who see fit to judge. Not that it will matter. No one would have time for that in the midst of total war.

But when it comes to waging that war, I would not see us shrink from what is required. There is no morality to be found in what comes next, on the path to deciding our fate.
In that, I would say there will be no difference among two sides facing total war. They will each do what is required. To be that monster.

We can sit idly by and do nothing. We can preach peace and tolerance and MAGA will drive their insanity train right off the cliff. Towards Nazism. Towards one party dictatorship. They will wage war on other nations. On our own people who do not submit to the complete erasure of civil rights. They will conscript those who live into meat wave assaults just like Russia. Because it's all just human to do these things. It happened before, it happens now, it will happen again.

Our American democratic institutions of Government were to protect us from these outcomes. In our hubris we failed to enact safeguards for decades as our people unwittingly slid down this path.
In Trump's second term we have crossed the Rubicon. There will be no Republic to return to for whoever wins the 2028 election. If there is an election. Rome is our fate now, and only an Empire will emerge from these events.

It is a positive outlook, to imagine the sort of people who survive and win, would have any interest in sharing this earth with their sworn enemy. It probably will not happen.
So while I speak of a moral victory, in truth I do not expect to see one. Anyone who cares to quibble over it would likely be long gone. The future will be written by those who come after.
For now we fight. Or wait until MAGA crosses yet another red line. One which our people can no longer ignore. Perhaps you need to see MAGA cross another.

Your words are for an era of peace. Back when we still had a functioning Democracy with Courts and a Congress. Before people were kidnapped off the streets and flown to gulags in foreign countries. Before armed men visited Congressional witnesses. Before our civil services and sciences were dismantled. Before cancer research was gutted. Before Allied nations were called Enemy. Before economics was turned extortion. Before threats of war were issued to Panama, Greenland, Canada, Mexico, and everyone else within reach. Before those who still dare speak were called criminal and traitor.

The world is fucked and the reason is that everyone has their justification for using force to fix it. They all say the same thing, we need to use it because they will the first chance they get. You are not the cure, you are the disease. You are way too fearful to see this. Everything you fear will happen already happened. Knowing that is what you now fear.

What needs fixing isn’t out there, it’s within yourself. Nothing has been lost. What happened is that you were made to feel you don’t deserve being joyful in the now. But you do and always were. To grieve is to heal. Good luck.
