Why is there stigma about drinking alcohol in the morning (on a non-work day)?

"why are you drinking in the morning?"
"it's not even noon yet."
"isn't it a little early to be drinking?"
etc

physically, there's not much difference between drinking alcohol at 9 in the morning and 9 at night.
so why is there stigma about drinking in the morning?

Maybe because it's associated with alcoholism?
If you're drinking in the morning, it seems like there's a possibility you plan to be drinking all day.

I ran out of milk once and used beer in my morning cereal instead. It wasn't good but it was still edible.

I drink in the morning sometimes, but that's relatively later in the day for me than most people. When on freedom time(non DST), I'm up between 4am-5am, so if I'm having whisky at 9am, it's four hours after waking. Not too early imo. I just prefer alcohol then. Night time, it makes me too sleepy, and I just want to go to bed.

Holy shat now that is f'ing HARSH.

I drank in the morning for several years but then again, I was struggling with alcoholism. I can't really say I'm not an alcoholic anymore because if I started drinking again it wouldn't take long and I'd be fuct.

Having a glass of Famous Grouse now. Goes good with a snow day and a fire.

Back when I drank, I never could figure out why people waited until the evening to get ripped. If you're going to blow a wad of money on drugs why would you take them just before bedtime? It's wasteful. Getting drunk in the morning gives you the best bang for the buck.

Start doing meth in the morning and nobody will care about the drinking. As others have pointed out, drinking in the morning is a pretty big red flag. Contrary to the bullshit typically spewed about the smokey taste of scotch or the depth and playful fruitiness of a nice cabernet nobody is fooled. People that drink do it for effect and if you're trying to get drunk in the morning you might have a problem.

You might be an alcoholic.

Alcohol might be bad for you on an empty stomach. Try eating first. Are you drinking to live? Or Are you living to drink?

Why do you really need to drink alcohol? It could be a mental disease. Try giving up alcohol for 30 days.

I have not drank alcohol for over 20 years. I found it was ruining my life in more ways than one.

I agree, though I don't get ripped; very seldom anyway. I don't particularly like being drunk. A warm buzz is good. I'll keep that going for a few hours, then I'm done. If it's gonna be a drinking day(dunno yet), I'll quit before 3, and that'll be it. Then it's shepherds pie and coffee time.

My guess is starting at 9am means you are drinking a lot longer than if starting at 9pm.

You do you.

It comes from the days of the temperance movement and judging people.

We should be past that as a society.

I'm drinking right now. Breakfast, the meal of champions, is based on the intoxicating effects of delicious coffee that is inebriated with alcohol. I choose Irish Cream over milk/sugar. Two shots to the quart and drunk through a straw for fast consumption.

I think the jittery finger on the mouse button was more to do with the caffeine than the Irish Cream. But either way ...

Irish cream's hardly drinking at all. I think it's 17% alcohol, so four measures is close to a real drink. Tastes good. I have a Carolans & coffee before work some days in the winter.

Because generally if someone starts drinking in the morning, they're going to keep drinking all day. Extending that further, they're probably doing that every day. While there are certainly some functional alcoholics, this tends to have a negative impact on most people. Call it a social stigma rather than a hard rule since most regions do allow alcohol sales in the morning.

Right on schedule. Had my shepherds pie, and am on my first cup from the pot . Doubt I'll have anymore alcohol today.
