Why is there sound bugs when multithreading is turned on?

Currently using gigabyte UD3R x58 mobo and i7 920, if I turn multithreading on in BIOS I hear a small sound static once every few secs, why does this happen?
 
This is one of the unfortunate side effects of using Intel processors. AMD processors do not have this problem. Hyperthreading negatively impacts processor performance-- that is why you hear the audio popping. The processor can't keep up with the demands of synthesizing audio in real time.

Unfortunately, the only option for you at this moment is to switch to AMD.
 
Good one! I thought my whole computer was going to cath fire after i saw that first post just thinking of the possible reponses.

I have seen PSU's cause stange sounds when pushed to the max, if your PSU is ok i would consider RMA'ing the mobo, i think its unlikely the CPU itself.
 
I have the gigabyte x58a-ud3r and i know exactly what your talking about my motherboard makes that funny noise too.. i dont know if it HT thats causing it but its annoying lol
 
My guess is that you are getting a higher current draw which causes more interference in the system. This causes the "popping". (this could be WAY off). Most likely the onboard sound card is poorly placed on the board.

Rubycons suggestion of getting a discrete sound card is what I would think is the only solution.
