The American design when properly used is superior and safer. Having 120 volts for most household items was much safer, Japan was only 100v at one time. Just recently a friend said his father died while using a 220v hedge clippers. The problem in America is all the lousy designed plugs that don't fit right. The only good ones are on UPS-es or power taps.

I just hate it when it's plugged in all the way but doesn't have any contact.

However, that whole thing with separate hot and cold water taps is another story.

Don't knock separate taps. I replaced both the faucets in the bath and kitchen with knob faucets. It makes it a lot easier to judge just how much of each you're using if you want just the right mix. Also a lot easier to make fine adjustments reliably. And it makes you feel like you're part of a long and storied history. OK, that last part was bullsh**.

Not like you're thinking, like an actual separate faucet from which the hot water flows, and one from which the cold water flows. No mixer.

I miss them on my bath. I can live without them everywhere else.

I hate modern bath faucets. If I was to redo my bathroom I'd go with separate taps myself.

Oh you want the water to be just right? Looks like you're going to have to move the tap by about 4 microns, oh you moved it by like a mm you're now going to boil alive.
