Why is there no HDMI video displayed when booting DH87MC?

During the first boot on a new system I built using an Intel board, DH87MC, I was unable to get HDMI video output to enable me to get into the BIOS to make the initial settings. Fans spun up, no beeps, and you could hear the Intel startup tone. After a number of unsuccessful attempts, I got a replacement board and encountered the same problem.

Being a little smarter this time I tried the DVI output. It worked flawlessly and I got into the BIOS, loaded WIN7 and had no further problems. Then I tried HDMI output and found there was no video until the O/S startup. Since I want a HDMI output and do not want to change cables whenever I need to go into the BIOS, I exchanged boards again.

With the third board, using HDMI, I was able to load the O/S and SP1. However, during a later WIN7 update, the system rebooted and I lost HDMI video until the WIN startup. DVI works great.

I have swapped P/S, cables, memory, run the system out of the case, and have exhausted my troubleshooting knowledge. I have found a number of similar problems using Google but no solutions. Is this a visual BIOS problem or an O/S issue? I would appreciate any comments or recommendations. Thanks. Peter

What CPU are you using? (very important)

TV's connected to HDMI and often not show bios screens. This is a problem with the TV not accepting the legacy resolution / frequency produced before OS loads.

Secondly the LCD you are using, may not like the signal, and it may not be a motherboard problem.

This will be interesting.

It could be a monitor problem, or a bios bug. I would wait at this point for another bios update. I am still thinking there are a few bugs in the UEFI in all vendors that as time goes on will be much more refined.

Remember when UEFI first came out, the OS could brick the board under certain instances?

Lastly, I would make the primary display on the DVI and use a DVI to HDMI converter, then use the secondary display on the dedicated HDMI port. I know you paid good money for this board, and want it to work. I would too. But I have learned that you can't find one, that just works 100%. Dell / Lenovo is the only way unfortunately.

Maybe there are some better chipset drivers or improved HD Video Drivers. Might also be some kind of odd bios setting. Did you get the video drivers from Asus for the Monitors? Maybe go ask Asus if they have had any issues. Also see if there is a BIOS update that might address video issues like you are having. Usually in the BIOS there are settings for either displaying a splash screen and also for displaying the BIOS even when there are no errors.

Thanks for the response. All the latest drivers and BIOS updates available from Intel are installed. I could not find drivers for the ASUS monitors at ASUS support. I will contact ASUS re any issues like this. I do hear the audio tones for the Intel splash screen (Intel Inside) but no video. If F2 is pressed when I hear the tones I can see the green power light blink which means you are booting into BIOS, but, no video.

I may have same issue with Asus Gryphon and GTX 750, but worked fine before with GT 630 using HDMI. The GT 630 would see the bios and then windows splash screen, but the GTX 750 video doesn't come up until login screen. Weird. Going to try different bios settings over the weekend to figure it out. I'll let you know.

I went through most of the bios settings and nothing fixed it. Must be missing something. I'll let you know if I figure it out.

Hello. I have just built a system with a DH87MC MoBo and a i7 4790 Processor. At boot I get no beep warnings, fans spun up, an external USB key if plugged flash its light but no video from DVI and HDMI both. I checked cables and monitor and they are working. Any suggestions from you guys?

I have problems with HDMI on my last Intel Motherboard Build. Sometimes the HDMI goes out or gets a bad ground or something. I just unplug the HDMI plug on the MB and plug it back in. There may be some options to display the boot messages that you can turn on in the BIOS or in windows.

I tend to think they may be using sub-standard parts on the motherboard. Another thing I have seen over the years is Intel specifications on motherboard are implemented to the exact standards of the hardware, sometimes, not allowing for any variation.
