During the first boot on a new system I built using an Intel board, DH87MC, I was unable to get HDMI video output to enable me to get into the BIOS to make the initial settings. Fans spun up, no beeps, and you could hear the Intel startup tone. After a number of unsuccessful attempts, I got a replacement board and encountered the same problem.
Being a little smarter this time I tried the DVI output. It worked flawlessly and I got into the BIOS, loaded WIN7 and had no further problems. Then I tried HDMI output and found there was no video until the O/S startup. Since I want a HDMI output and do not want to change cables whenever I need to go into the BIOS, I exchanged boards again.
With the third board, using HDMI, I was able to load the O/S and SP1. However, during a later WIN7 update, the system rebooted and I lost HDMI video until the WIN startup. DVI works great.
I have swapped P/S, cables, memory, run the system out of the case, and have exhausted my troubleshooting knowledge. I have found a number of similar problems using Google but no solutions. Is this a visual BIOS problem or an O/S issue? I would appreciate any comments or recommendations. Thanks. Peter
