Equals irony.

I was sitting in the lunch room at work one day. Got into a conversation about types of milk.

Co-worker: "Do you drink 1% or 2%?"
me: "Well I grew up drinking 2% but my wife likes 1%, so we had to compromise."
Co: "Oh rly? How did you do that?"
me: "I switched to 1%."

And we both laughed heartily before enjoying our respective crappy lunches.

I would say there is a fair amount of difference between them, since people say there is a difference between full fat and others.

look on your milk carton... whole milk = 12% fat :Q

you nub...that means 12% of your RDA of fat. please tell me you are under the age of 7.

Fun story, perhaps you've heard it before:
In high school, there was some kind of health assembly in the gym, with stands set up from various organizations. One was there to prove that you can't tell the difference between skim and whole milk. I tried it out. 4 cups, blind taste test, skim, 1%, 2%, and whole. I correctly determined which was which. They kind of kind of quietly got me out of their booth in a hurry. Guess I was bad marketing. :)

2% milk is tolerable.
1% milk is useful of you have run out of everything else in the house to drink and your water has been shut off so you can't have tap water.
Skim milk, I dunno. Maybe use it to water plants or something but it's certainly not drinkable.

If you're a cow. ;)
It's decent enough for humans, but I'd imagine that the "best" milk for humans would of course be what nature designed for us to drink. But then, there's probably not a lot of evidence concerning the health effects of long-term consumption of human breast milk.

Once they manage to make it stop tasting like month-old cow's milk, let me know. :p
My sister loves that stuff. I find it intolerable.

I'm fine with any of them, skim is pushing it though. Why 1% and 2% but no .5% or 2.23%? I dunno.

This logic is so rediculous, it's beyond me. You are saying there is a difference between 1 adn 2% milk because people say there is a diference between whole milk and "others?"

That's like saying there is a difference between a 60 mph car and a 61 mph car because some people see a difference between a space rocket and a model rocket.

Actually, 20-some years ago, when we were in Utah, Safeway sold 1/2% milk. As for WHY you they sell these different milks...because we will buy them. Not sure about the rest of the country, but here in Kahleeforneeya, they remove the fat from the "low/non-fat milks, then add "milk solids" back into them so they are thicker, more nutritious and have more protein.

I actually prefer the taste of nonfat to 1%; however I'll use 1% for recipes requiring milk because it comes out better. But for drinking, I'm a nonfat fan.

edit: I also like unsweetened iced tea, and prefer diet sodas to regulars, simply as matters of taste. Am I weird or what.

you're not weird im the same.

I used to drink 2% but have been getting 1% because I drink a lot of milk and don't need the fat. I've gotten used to 1%, but fat free milk is still pretty nasty.

Exactly!:D

compared to the watered-down chalk dust that is skim milk, I'll take my whole, thank you very much:)

No, lack of exercise is the reason why everyone here is fat. You see a LOT more "low fat", "diet", "reduced calorie" stuff on the shelves in this country than anywhere else, and yet we're the fattest...clearly the problem isn't fat content.

I love fat, it's delicious, and a necessary part of your diet. And since I'm skinny as a rail, I don't even look at nutrition labels (except to confirm that it isn't a nasty-tasting "diet" product...I prefer to enjoy what I eat, otherwise why bother?).

Maybe sheer quantity is part of the problem..people in this country would rather eat pound after pound of mediocre, artificial "diet" stuff than savor the taste of real food in moderation.

I friggin refuse to use skim for anything. I have used 1% for the longest time, but lately, have been using 2%. Now I find it hard to go back to 1%.

skim milk = water
1% milk = water + 1 spoon of powder milk
2% milk = water + 2 spoons of powder milk
whole milk = the yummy stuff

I refuse to drink anything other than whole milk. If I see the fake crap in my fridge, I empty it in the sink.
