In Windows 2000 Pro I see a star in the center of my Favorites folder. What does that signify? I see the folder itself is read only (not the files within), however making another folder read only doens't give it a star.

It's just a special icon Microsoft gave to the Favorites folder to signify it's one of the "Important" folders for the user. Look at the My Documents folder or the History folder, they both should have special icons as well. If you look at the folders for another account on the system you'll see that they don't have the icons like that. If you logged in as that user though, the icons would show up as the special ones for that user, and the ones in your own folders would be normal. It makes the icons change according to the logged in user.

If you right click and go to the properties for the folder, and go to the Customize tab (if Win2k has that; if not, it should be on another tab) you can change the icon used for the folder.
