Why is there a Speaker of the House, and a separate person as Majority leader?

I mean the speaker of the house is there because his/her party won the Majority.

So why is there a need to find a new Majority leader?

ie:
Nancy Pelosi is to become Speaker. Now the Dems are trying to find a new Majority leader.

Why cant the Speaker be the Majority leader as well? Why do you need a 2nd person?

Howdy conjur. Happy November!

The Speaker of the House is more of a titular thing, where the Majority leader has an active role in party business like forming coalitions and working n legislation.

No, you have Speaker of the House, Majority Leader, and Majority Whip. You also have Minority Leader and Minority Whip.

The Speaker of the House is the president of the house. The majority leader is the leader of the majority party.

The situation isn't mirrored in the senate because the Vice President is the president of the senate.

the Speaker of the House is busy with Speaker duties. That person typically doesn't have the time to be the Majority Lead at the same time. Plus it gives the party in power 3 prominent leadership positions vs just 2 for the minority party.

There is a House Majority leader (which will be Pelosi) and a Senate Majority leader (which will probably be Reid)...
