Why is the XP 2500 Barton so popular? Is it a cood CPU to OC? I was looking at the XP 3000 w/ 400 bus.

Yes, AMD's K7 yields are so good that pretty much all the Bartons run 3200+ with no problem. And the 2500+ is so cheap at $90.

But they don't want you to know that. :) Newer Barton's have their multiplers locked so right now you should get the 2500+ because that has the same multiplier as the 3200+, just a lower bus speed.

Have you read these forums at all? There's probably 4 or 5 answers to this question on the first page of the CPU/Overclocking forum.

When I bought a 1800xp throughbred "B" cpu to overclock to 2400 xp speeds, I was really impressed. My machine felt very responsive. When I removed my "B" chip to install a 2500 Barton and overclock that puppy to 3000+ speeds, the machine felt the same. It wasn't worth it to me except for bragging rights and my 2001 scores did not go up that much faster...
