Why is the word "e b a y" forbidden on this forum???

I remember that I posted this question in the "Forum Issues" forum a long time back (May, I think). I can't seem to find it using the search function. The replies that I got at the time seemed to say that it had something to do with people linking to E*bay auctions in the FS/FT forum or something like that.

There's a trick involved with typing ebay? Huh...

Did you know that you can click "edit" to see anyone's post, you just can't save it changed?

I notice that I have no problems typing it too as a reply to a post, but if you try to edit a post and have E*bay in there, it complains.

Another point should be this silly ban on Yahoo email addresses. Some of us (me) use Yahoo as their primary email address. There are literally hundreds of free email companies out there. Some kiddie wanting to use a bogus email address can go to any one of these sites. Blocking the most popular (Yahoo) just inconviences those of us who actually use Yahoo as their primary mail. Sure I can change my primary email address to some other company that's not banned, but it's a real pain to change an email address when you frequently correspond with a lot of people. I think the ban on Yahoo email addresses is pointless and really only inconviences legitimate users of Yahoo email.

Not that this rant belongs in GH, but since we are talking about banned stuff.

you can type e*bay by itself, but its forbidden w/additional characters...weird
