Why is the PM msg/reply window so narrow?

Theres no standard though. The quick reply PM text field is a lot wider than the advanced one. By the time you've quoted the person you're replying to, you can hardly see whats going on.
 
I just checked on mine and except this thread it looks OK (This thread due to the large image pushes everything to the right)
