Why is the Nissan 240SX so sought after?

This is purely out of curiousity, there seems to be an outstanding market for them.

I loved my 87 hatch. Wish I'd never gotten rid of it (about four years ago).
Oops, I'm thinking 200, not 240.

For the most part its popular because it can be converted into a good drift car. Not too many Japanes RWD cars out there.

<========= Used to own a '92 240SX 'vert

Drifting is all the rage.

240SX are RWD, parts are cheap, and it is a very easy motor to add a turbo too. You can also do motor swaps from Japanese 240SXs (Silvias) by installing a SR20DET motor. 2.0L 4cyl DOCH Turbo good for about 205 HP. Adding about $1000 of mods to the motr nets you about 250WHP.

Add in that they are light and you have a perfect drifting car that handles well and will drag race good times.

Lots of parts are interchangable and you can install the 300ZX TT brakes and 5-lug hubs and even the new 350Z wheels will fit.

What about the transmission on a car that old and throwing that amount of HP at it? It's never that easy.

The drifting scene brought on the popularity. Most 240's I see out there aren't the typical ricer, 3 level high spoiler type. They are more of the true enthusiast. All the ones I've seen have highly built motors with turbos and suspension upgrades.

Cheap, lightweight, reliable, RWD, huge aftermarket, and most importantly, it's an import.

A couple of SR20's will pull a premium a week before race wars ;)

RWD, they look pretty good, reasonable on gas, easy to upgrade... and best of all, not a honda.

I've always liked them, too bad everyone else does, too:p

It doesn't have to be a rice car. These cars are cheap and very easy to upgrade. RWD -> drift fun.
