OK, that's not really a word, but that's a big reason for a lot of folks to pass on the current KT890 boards.
What's the delay on the long awaited upgrade to the 8237? I saw mention of it months ago and still 2 new NB chipsets later and they're still using the same old SB chip...

It's actually been 4 new chipsets later (KT880, K8T800, K8T800 Pro and K8T890). VIA have announced that the VT8251 will debut with the K8T890 Pro chipset...

does the via K8T890 chipset overclock well ? I know that NF4 is one of the best overclockers ever, but not sure about K8T890. Also I think integrated gigabit lan is better then add on chip, especially if that chip uses the pci bus... But, Nvidia's chipset integrated lan and firewall has it's own share of issues (mostly unresolved driver problems). Especially now they're trying to compete with Intel's chipset, these shortcomings are showing themselves in comparisons, which I think will hurt their chances in the Pentium4 chipset market. Still, it's not a bad first try.

You're right about SATA, but the Gigabit LAN is not important in the 8237 vs 8251 comparison. VIA decided a PCI-E solution is the way to go (same as ATI).
Exactly, K8T890 has four PCI-E peripheral lanes in the Northbridge, one of which can be used with a PCI-E Gigabit LAN controller that would be far superior to integrated Gb MAC + PHY chip. Unfortunately, not many motherboard vendors have opted to use it.

I like the NF4 Ultra boards as it takes the GIGA-ethernet off the PCI bus and offers NCQ through the SATA ports.

Just wish someone would put better sound then the realtek junk. Maybe soem VIA envy please, heck C-Media would be a upgarde over realtek.

The K8T890 chipset is optimized to work seamlessly with the latest PCI Express graphics cards, featuring a PCI Express x16 connection for up to 4GB/s of dedicated graphics bandwidth per direction, and provides four PCI Express x1 connections. Each 1x PCI Express connection provides 250MB/s per direction bandwidth to PCI Express peripheral devices such as Gigabit Ethernet and HDTV tuner cards.
Among the few K8T890 boards that implement onboard PCI Express Gigabit LAN are Asus A8V-E Deluxe and Gigabyte GA-K8VT890-9.

My AMD system? KT133A. Man, that thing was sweet for its time too. We need REVIEWS and BENCHMARKS here to work with so we can determine whats best....

I went with the 2 820 mobos (one intel, one ASUS), and I ended up exchanging both of them for a KT133A and another 820 with RDram
because there were a worldwide recall from intel for the 820s

It just isn't "sexy" enough, the K8T890 has a nice rack but flat can *VT8237* :p I have it on my MSI Master2 which is the old K8T800 so it is long in the tooth now. Sites need sexy stuff like SLI, HD audio, and superior overclocking features and performance to get the traffic for a board review that makes it worth the effort of doing it. the K8T890 is solid all around, but spectacular where?
