I don't see anything wrong with it. I see too many threads being locked. If they're in the wrong category, just move/lock them. If they're reposts, fine, lock them. I don't see why threads are being locked left and right when discussion in them is perfectly fine.
The BD won thread bugs me as well. Come on. Yea there's flaming, but compared to the old graphics card discussions we've had, it's nothing. Lock it now and you know there's going to be a new HD/BD discussion spawning elsewhere in a new thread.
We are quite sure someone with over 13,000 posts knows how to use the forums.
