Why is the goalie pulled when there's a delayed penalty?

This is in hockey, btw (WILD JUST SCORED!! WOOTR!!!).

Ok, anyway, so when there's a delayed penatly the goalie goes waddling off the ice. Why? Seems so pointless to me. The refs have blown a wistle signaling there's a penatly. No need for the goalie to leave.

the goalie leaves to put the extra attacker on, therefore you get a 6-5 powerplay for a bit. you always want to try and score that goal.. when the offending team touches the puck, play is stopped.

Goalie is pulled to replace it with another player... in essence making it a powerplay of 6-5. If you're already down 4-5, and there's only a min left... there isn't much chance of you scoring and getting a tie. So you might as well pull the goalie and add another attacker, at least giving you an offensive chance to tie and get into OT.

play continues until the team that got the penalty touches the puck. so, there is no way for that team to score, unless the other team shoots it in their own goal. in theory, the non-penalty team can set up a 6-5 advantage in the offensive zone, but the puck usually gets touched up before that can happen

ahhh...that makes sense. I'd hate to be the goalie skating over to the bench and 99.99% of the time before I get there the whistle is blown.

Minnesota is losing now :(
