if you're just looking for differences, then it'd be that the explorer has 2 extra buttons which are pretty handy. not to mention the explorer is more comfortable imho. as for justification of the price diff, i dunno, i got mine from the microsoft store :)

Actually, the Intellimouse Optical has two extra buttons as well. I would guess that it's more expensive because it's bigger therefore requiring more material to manufacture and because it's silver. Colored components almost always cost more than plain white/beige components.

Doesn't the optical have 2 MORE buttons than Explorer because it's left/right-hand compatible?

Maybe that was the older model.

oh damn, didn't notice those buttons. no the explorer and normal one have two additonal buttons each, no difference in number. but i guess the explorer's are on one side whereas the normal one has them one on both sides. and the explorer comes with a limited lifetime hardware warranty. and its more comfortable for right handers imho.

i would go with the optical cuz the only reason i chose to get that over the explorer was the explore felt weird when i tried it in the store so whatever feels better buy it. I also use all 5 buttons when i'm playing FPS gamems like cstrike it is really nice cuz u can use ur thumb on the left and ring left and it works perfecty instead of using the thumb for 2 buttons on the left
