Why is the Eugenics Movement that happened in the US never talked about in history books?

I think there are several reasons why few know about forced sterilisation. It affected only underpriviled persons who don't have many advocates. Also it is a fairly recent practice (sometimes up to the 1970s and in some cases outside North America even well into the 1980s!) And last but not least it is a grizzly matter and like other unethical subjects, , not an easy subject to talk about. There's a tendency to not weight ethics that much in history courses or to not teach ethics at all at school, so newer generations have to figure out and learn from past mistakes by themselves.
