Why is the bar for advertisements still there with no ads? I really see no reason to keep it there....

Teacher, teacher! You forgot to give us homework! ;)
I missed it. When did they say they were going to remove it?

They didn't, but I mean, whats the point of leaving it there? It should just be a simple template change, shouldn't it?

That was asked in August, when it first became blank, and then they added that crappy flash ad. My guess is they are waiting for someone to cash up the money to use that premium space.

Wonder how much it would cost me to buy that space. Put up an ad that says "Isn't this an awful place to put an ad? Dontcha hate how it mucks with the site design?" ;)

Anyone wanna chip in?

It'll probably be like $5 to $10 per 1000 views or cheaper if you buy a lot. Don't take that as a quote or anything, just what I'd think the prices would be.

I would imagine it to be much higher than that....

If those were the prices I would advertise myself in that bar...

YOu've also got to take into account the amount of times people click on them. I, myself, never clicked on one of the ads on that bar. Actually, only once or twice have I clicked on ads on this site period, and that was for Mushkin since they give 10% off for AT users. And I have, what, 5k posts? Double that because to reply or create a new thread you have to go to a reply page, most of the time, so thats 10k views. See why it can be hard? Obviously, the time for 10k views is like a year, and most likely on these forums, 1k can go by pretty fast.

I know, but you are not the average user, mr 21 posts a day yeah? :p

Not everyone is a frequent visitor to anandtech. A lot of people only come on the forums when they have a problem and want help, which is fair enough, this is after all a tech support forum. Either way, I still think it would be more than what you said.

Perhaps Zuni or someone else will enlighten us with a price ;)

On the same note, why is "view forum polls" still there? I can't remember the last time I saw one.

Clicking on ads? Some of us paid money so that we'd be ad free. I usually don't click ads - I I scroll right away so that they aren't visible.
I want the subscriptions to come back, as do many others! :(

I think the question you should be asking is "how come yo' guys aint had ne pollz goin for loooong time?"

Seeing as the reply you will get for asking why its sitll there will be "Because it is" :p

I imagine it's a fusetalk feature that just doesn't get used here at AT and is more hassle to remove (or toggle) than to just leave it. Like the Top 10 posters in the Today page. It's likely just a FuseTalk default but serves no purpose here.
