Why is the Daytona 500 not called the Daytona 200?

Just watching Kilborn and just found out that the Daytona 500 is only 200 laps.... so where does the "500" come from? 😕

this last year it was the daytona 278.5.

why they can't race in the rain is beyond me. put some rain tires on them and slow the fsck down! your car still works!

since nascar is the slowest of any major racing series i guess its less of a race already, eh?
